2018 - A Year In Review

As another opens up most of us take the time to reflect on the year that has just passed. It would be easy for to look back at 2018 and focus only on the negatives or to think that I haven't done a lot with my time. It's actually nice to look back at some of the things I have done over the last 12 months and think it was a pretty fun year.

Of course the start of the year wasn't great, my employment situation was still a grey area. Life was becoming expensive and money was running out, the job market was becoming desolate and I was becoming miserable. I would go days without speaking to a single person or even getting dressed and I was filled with worry and anxiety over the future.

When February rolled around, so did a family birthday party. One of my younger cousins turned four and of course the family gathered to celebrate but mostly to catch up. I almost didn't go, I came up with so many reasons not to leave the house that day but eventually I dragged myself there. It turned out that relaxing and just having fun with my family was great stress reliever. As is jumping on a kids bouncy castle in your late twenties. 10/10 would recommend.

Shortly after I ended up in a job that I absolutely love, working with a team of people who are fun and that makes all the difference to enjoying your work.

As summer rolled around 2 of my childhood favourite musical artists began touring in the UK. Having never been to a concert (EVER) I was more than excited to book tickets for STEPS who performed in my home town. Later in the year I dragged my best friend to see none other that BRITNEY SPEARS!!! I have waited so long to see her in concert and it finally happened! Dreams do come true ;)

Over the Summer I decided I wanted to start moving my body more. Sitting at a desk for hours a day only to come home and sit on the sofa was starting to take a toll, especially on my waist line. I attempted to join a gym which didn't even last through the trial month because it was damn expensive. So I tried my hand at the NHS Couch to 5k. I rarely ever did PE at school so trying to get myself running 3 times a week was tough. Initially the running itself was really hard work until I really surprised myself. I was enjoying it, I was actually looking forward to going out for runs. I signed up for a Colour Run, completing a 5k course amidst a rainbow of coloured powder and all round fun time.

As the nights drew darker and the weather cooled down, Halloween was quickly approaching. With it came a trip to Xtreme Scream, a scare event held at Twinlakes. It is a selection of haunted houses that are designed to, well, make you scream. The actors are great, the prosthetics amazing and all round its a really fun night out! Below was the giant pumpkin monster that was on display this year.

I took a trip back to my University city, Lincoln. One of my younger cousins is starting to look at his options for Uni and I jumped at the chance to go back. I loved my time here, I met amazing people and had some of the best times of my life here. Even though I started University 10 years ago, boy does time fly, it was at Lincoln University that I really grew up and started to find myself.

To finish off the year, having saved every spare penny I could, I travelled to New York City for the first time. I think it's on everyone's Christmas Wish List. It was everything I hoped it would be and more!

Other notable things to mention would be that I went to see Blood Brothers, a great show which I last saw about 15 years ago. I went to a speed dating event which was a lot of fun, I came home with 2 matches though both dates did not go well! I also went to a Psychic evening where I was told again that I already know my future husband and that I really need to start writing more, so here I am!

I made some great memories through 2018 and came into 2019 with a positive attitude. This year I turn 29 which fills me with dread, I hate getting older. But I plan to build on everything I achieved in 2018 and make this one a great year!
