Essie Gel Couture Review

Over the last few years gel nails have become increasingly popular. That has filtered down to the high street and now brands are coming with their own version, including Essie.

Introducing the new Essie Gel Couture range. These have been out for a few months now and I have read many rave reviews on how fantastic they are that I couldn't help myself when I was faced with a vast array of them on a recent Boots visit.

As we are now in Autumn and I have declared my love for reds (blog post here) I of course chose a wine red 'Spiked with Style'.

These polishes are a two step process, the colour and a high gloss top coat. They promise 14 day wear without chipping and no UV lamp required.

On application the brush allows for an even coverage, I found that 2 coats is enough to get an opaque finish. The top coat is thick and glossy and levels itself nicely. The finish is of a salon gel manicure standard and there are so many colours to choose from in the range that you would have a colour for any occasion. However, the longest I have made this polish last is 7 days. Not great BUT better than regular polishes. I do use the top coat on other polishes and it does work well but to get the maximum effectiveness it best to use both the gel ones together.
